Will Liverpool Retain The Title This Season?

The 2019/20 season was completely dominated by Liverpool, finishing 18 points clear of rivals Manchester City and just 1 short of equalling the outstanding 100-point tally of Sky Blue in 2017/18. The Reds got off to a bad start amid expectations from many fans, barely escaping defeat in their opening match against newly-promoted Leeds United and then losing 7-2 to Aston Villa a few weeks later. They then, in the Merseyside Derby, drew 2-2 against Everton.

However, things have changed as the season has advanced and the men of Klopp have found their stride. In the club's defense of its Premier League crown, a 3-0 win against Leicester City and a 1-1 away draw against Manchester City would be critical.

Despite beginning the season in second place behind their main rivals Manchester City, these results have helped Liverpool become the bookmakers' favorite for the league this year. The two sides are still very similar and within the space of only a couple of weeks, the situation could change drastically.

It would be hard to argue, regardless of your football loyalty, that Liverpool had anything other than a dominant season at the top of English football. Many people expected that this season the men of Jurgen Klopp would win the championship, but maybe not as many felt it would be achieved in such a dominant way as it was.

Unfortunately, the team ran away with the title last year for non-Liverpool supporters, but there's still a possibility that next season, the race will be even closer towards the top.

Whilst it's hard to imagine Liverpool having anything other than a successful season next time around, based on their recent form and general degradation of the squad after a very intensive season, it's fair to say that next season's race for the top will probably be much tighter than this one.
